Madeira has taken gold medal position at the annual World Travel Awards, winning the “Leading Island Destination in Europe” for the 6th consecutive year. This effectively shows that not only is the island underlining its outstanding reputation but also shows that Madeira is an ever charming and unique island in Europe. The award ceremony was held for the first time in Madeira at the prestigious Reid’s Palace hotel, famed for such visitors as Winston Churchill, Ernest Hemmingway and Gregory Peck. One of the strongest reasons underlining Madeira as the destination winner is the warm winter temperatures, safe surroundings and endless list of outdoor activities.
Madeira is now in the shortlist for the World’s leading island destination 2019.
Present at the awards ceremony were leading representatives from the travel industry, members of the Madeira government and local VIP’s. After the gala dinner event, Paula Cabeco, Secretary of Regional Tourism said that “hosting the event has been of great importance because there were so many representatives of the travel business attending the event, this is really important for Madeira”. Later in the evening Miguel Albuquerque, President of Madeira said that “this award for Madeira is the justification for our continued investment in the preservation of Madeira as a nature reserve. We will also be ensuring Madeira stays as an exclusive quality tourism destination”. The President also said “our aim is to keep Madeira as the top-quality island destination in Europe while further developing the strong service sector that supports tourists visiting the Islands”.
Good luck Madeira for the World’s leading Island Award!
